(Brasilia).- The CPI on Sports Betting will announce and vote on its work plan at a meeting scheduled for this Wednesday (17). The allegations to be investigated by the CPI involve players, managers and betting companies. The president is Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) and the rapporteur is Romário (PL-RJ), author of the request that gave rise to the CPI.
The president of the commission is Senator Jorge Kajuru, from the PSB in Goiás, and the rapporteur is Senator Romário, from the PL in Rio de Janeiro, author of the request that gave rise to the CPI. In the document, Romário states that sports betting currently generates a lot of money and that the possible grooming of players and managers to manipulate results could jeopardise the credibility of the games.
Among the documents that can be analysed are requests for information from the Federal Police, the Brazilian Football Confederation and the Attorney General's Offices of Ceará, the Federal District and Goiás. Justice prosecutor Fernando Cesconetto, from the Goiás Public Prosecutor's Office, and the majority shareholder of Botafogo's Sociedade Anônima de Futebol, John Textor, who says he has evidence of corruption in Brazilian football, could be invited as witnesses.
For Jorge Kajuru, he needs to be heard as soon as possible: (Sen. Kajuru) "The day Textor, the owner of Rio's Botafogo, who all of Brazil is waiting for, suddenly has him here in this CPI, because I trust him, I think he really has a bullet in his eye, he'll be our first guest, Brazil wants to know the evidence he has, the recordings he has, it would really be a bombastic start to this CPI, that's why we trust Textor."
Among the people who could be summoned by the CPI are the president of Tombense Futebol Clube, Lane Gaviolii, and of Londrina Esporte Clube, Getúlio Castilho, as well as the Attorney General of the Goiás Public Prosecutor's Office, Cyro Terra Peres. From Rádio Senado, Pedro Pincer.
