(Brasilia).- The Sports Commission is debating bills to restrict sports betting advertising at a public hearing
The Sports Commission discussed, in a public hearing, two bills that ban advertising for fixed-odds bets, in which the bettor tries to predict the outcome of sporting events (PL 3405/2023 and PL 2985/2023).
Psychiatrist Hermano Tavares said it was necessary to ban this type of advertising in order to tackle a ‘calamitous’ situation, while Heloísa Diniz, from ABFS, advocated more oversight of the sector, rather than an end to these commercials. For Senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ), the federal government is silent on regulating the sector.
