Lagos Gaming Regulator Calls for Greater Collaboration on Responsible Gaming

LSLGA CEO Speaks at Responsible Gaming Symposium

The Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), Bashir Are, has called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to enhance player protection and promote responsible gaming across Africa.

Are made the remarks while participating in the Responsible Gaming Symposium organized by Gamble Alert, which brought together regulators, operators, civil society groups, technology providers, researchers, and other industry stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for advancing responsible gaming on the continent.

Industry Watchdog Praised for Advocacy Efforts

During his address, Are commended Gamble Alert for its continued commitment to responsible gaming advocacy, describing the organization as an important watchdog within the industry.

He noted that the group's efforts have played a significant role in promoting awareness, accountability, and consumer protection, helping to strengthen responsible gaming standards across the sector.

Player Protection Requires Collective Responsibility

Speaking during a panel discussion titled “The Future of Responsible Gaming in Africa: Strengthening Regulatory Oversight for Player Protection,” Are stressed that safeguarding players cannot be the sole responsibility of regulators.

According to him, effective player protection requires coordinated action from governments, gaming operators, civil society organizations, technology providers, researchers, and the public.

He emphasized that a collaborative approach is essential to building a sustainable gaming ecosystem that balances industry growth with consumer welfare.

Public Urged to Report Irresponsible Gambling Practices

During a press briefing following the symposium, Are encouraged members of the public to play a more active role in protecting vulnerable individuals from gambling-related harm.

He advocated a “See Something, Say Something” approach, urging citizens to report instances of irresponsible gambling practices, particularly cases involving underage individuals gaining access to gaming facilities.

Commitment to Safe and Transparent Gaming

The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a gaming environment that is safe, responsible, transparent, and aligned with international best practices.
