(Boston).- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has approved in-person sports betting in the state, to begin in late January with the Super Bowl.
During a meeting last week, the commission set a date for starting in-person sports betting in late January at casinos, and mobile sports betting in early March.
However, the commissioners said that the target dates could still be pushed back, if preparations are not completed.
In a move that followed more than 30 other states, including several neighbors, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill in August legalizing betting on professional and collegiate sports.
As state residents are already traveling to Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and Connecticut to place legal wagers, Baker said he supports the move.
In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that banning sports betting was unconstitutional.
Last week, the gaming commission released a survey that requires companies to apply for a sports wagering operator license.
