The lawmaker in charge of the Legislative Assembly committee currently poring over the details of legislation on state secrets made the U-turn today (Tuesday) after a closed-door meeting with government officials including the secretary for administration and justice.

It was a just slip-up, and what I meant should have been gaming revenue figures instead, Lei stressed.

The lawmaker in charge of the Legislative Assembly committee currently poring over the details of legislation on state secrets made the U-turn today (Tuesday) after a closed-door meeting with government officials including the secretary for administration and justice.

“It was a just slip-up, and what I meant should have been gaming revenue figures instead”, Lei stressed.

Yesterday’s meeting concluded that only a small number of documents would be listed as confidential and be kept out of public reach under the bill likely to pass its second reading soon with ease.

If passed, the bill will give the chief executive legal powers to have a final say in deciding whether a document should be treated as a state secret.

After today’s meeting, the lawmaker said that access to information considered secret would only be granted to “specific government workers who receive training in advance” to ensure absolute confidentiality.
