Paraguay government enacts a law that regulates slot machines operation

(Asunción).- The law establishes the local governments as the enforcement authorities for both authorization and control. In the same way, it specifies the prohibition of the installation of electronic games in public places with the presence of children, citing markets, pantries, hairdressers, Internet rooms, pharmacies, hamburgers, and in any business or trade that is not dedicated to games of chance or casino business.
The law emphasizes that slot games operate outside of casinos or authorized gaming venues and is intended to prevent minors from suffering possible harm that affects their physical and mental health.
Regarding the authority of application, it is noted that according to what is established by this law, the municipalities will be in coordination with the National Commission of Games of Chance (Conajzar).
"The license for the operation of electronic games of chance will be granted by the local governments," it stipulates.
Moreover, the best offer presented will be taken into account, and it will comply with the rules issued by the competent authority, among which the power to increase the canon will be preserved.
With regard to sanctions, it is indicated that each municipality will impose fines, which will be a current legal minimum wage for each machine. It multiplies in case of recidivism.
