(Nebraska).- In Nebraska it is legal to bet on sports. Starting Thursday, June 22, sports gambling kicked off at WarHorse Casino Lincoln. Gamblers can place sports wagers through any of 10 kiosks in the casino or the sportsbook window. Meanwhile, online sports gambling is still not permitted in the state.
Lance Morgan, CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc commented about this: “Nebraskans have been asking for the opportunity to wager on sports since the ballot initiatives were passed in 2020.”
“We’re thrilled to be the first casino in the state to offer sports betting.”
The state’s regulations require sports wagers to be placed on-site, but bettors can view odds, build and save wagers through the WarHorse app to place the wager at the on-site kiosks or sportsbook window.
In addition to the ban on placing bets online, gamblers cannot wager on in-state collegiate teams.
“Bettors will be able to place wagers on a wide variety of sports and events, much more than just the major sports,” Morgan added.
Nebraska legalized sports betting in 2021, which permitted race tracks and casinos to take bets at their properties.
WarHorse Gaming is a division of Ho-Chunk, Inc., the economic development corporation of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. WarHorse Gaming manages and operates the expansion of casino gaming at the existing horse racing tracks in partnership with the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) in Omaha and Lincoln.
More than 30 states in the country have some form of legal sports betting. Most of those jurisdictions allow online bets. Not in Nebraska.
