Portugal: Changes in online gaming taxation announced for 2021

(Portugal).- For the two big matches in Portugal, the online gaming market is interesting for the Portuguese economy.
As Poketpt.com explains, in a moment in which proposals in order to change online gaming taxation system in Portugal for 2020 still have to be debated in detail, Lusa Agency anticipates that new changes in taxation may be implemented on the next State Budget for 2021.
The members of the two main political parties in the country showed their flexibility to new chnanges in online sportsbetting law. Pierre Tournier, BGC International Director, said there are three points that different games of chance operators have been demanding for a long time in Portugal.

Both Hugo Costa (PS) and Jorge Mendes (PSD) were open to new changes in the online betting law in the next State Budget in 2021, noting that the deadline for submitting changes for 2020 ended the same day . Both also said that "the debate about online betting should be deepened." "The online betting market is interesting for the Portuguese economy. We are aware of this," said Jorge Mendes of the PSD.
Changes in the State Budget for 2020 provide for an increase of the Special Tax on Online Gambling (IEJO) to 25% (15% current) in the gross income of gambling, poker and casino, fixing from 8% in the volume of billing of sports betting to quota, the increase to 25% of gross income in horse betting (15% current) and the increase of sports betting to exchange quota to 35% (15% current ).
