(Barcelona).- SMI is celebrating 10 years in the business by opening a new 6000 square metre assembly plant in Manresa.

10 years imagining and making the future of gaming a reality

Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of its foundation, SMI has opened new assembly and logistics facilities at the Oliva Torras Grup’s industrial complex in Manresa (Barcelona), where the whole manufacturing process for SMI's products takes place. This investment has been necessary to respond to the increase in production, reflecting the positive acceptance by the gaming industry of the young company’s innovative proposals.

The event held on 10 November brought together the entire SMI team and the Oliva Torras Grup management team, which SMI has been part of since its foundation. Attendees were able to visit the new assembly and logistics facilities that occupy both floors of an old industrial building from the 70s, and which has been completely renovated for its new use. After the visit, Josep Barbal, SMI's CEO, took the floor to thank those present and everyone who has been part of the company’s success for their hard work and dedication. In his speech he also reflected on the present and the future that awaits them. Oliva Torras was represented by Ramon Mandaña and Sebastià Catllà, CEOs of the group and responsible for thanking the SMI team for their work and encouraging them to continue on their journey. This journey has not been without difficulties over these 10 years, as SMI was created in 2007, just at the beginning of what has been the most unfavourable economic cycle of recent decades. The group of founders, with Josep Barbal at the helm, had already been working together in the industry for some time. The end of a previous chapter created the opportunity to start a new project, this time with the support of Oliva Torras. Since then SMI's goal has been to offer global solutions to the gaming industry through technology, products and services. Over the course of these 10 years, manufacturers and distributors have not only trusted their technological and operational capacity, but also their conduct, which is always true to the values of confidentiality, honesty, integrity and respect. SMI has thereby become a strategic partner for the main players in the industry.

SMI has a team of 24 people, of which 16 work exclusively in RDI. To gain flexibility and responsiveness, it outsources production services. Its activity has two main lines of action: the development of products and solutions for third parties, and the development of its own products. As an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), SMI does not market to the end customer, but focuses its ability to create diversified solutions that contribute to the differentiation of its customers. Apart from being leaders in the national market, their solutions also have a global reach and are designed for the international market. Along with its best-known products, such as roulette, SMI develops and manufactures cash management machines for games rooms and interconnection systems. The Spanish gaming industry is one of the most attractive for other international manufacturers. SMI develops systems in this segment to integrate gaming platforms into the casino and online sectors for the AWP market.

Its future strategy involves continuing to offer differentiated, innovative products with high technological content. They see the future of gaming as a global world in which face-to-face and online games will share spaces and experiences in a totally interconnected way.
