Gamevy set up new games development studio in Newcastle
⏱ 2 min read
(United Kingdom).- An award-winning lottery and bingo games provider will be setting up a new development studio. It will be based in one of the fastest growing cities in the UK - Newcastle.
Gamevy – a leading licensed games supplier with offices in London, Berlin and Bilbao, Spain, produce a range of high-quality real-money games. This innovative start-up develops a range from keno and scratch cards to real skill games where players have the chance to win life-changing jackpots.
The tech sector in the north east is worth almost £1bn and is growing twice as fast as the rest of the economy, according to a new report by Tech Nation. Newcastle has one of the fastest growing tech communities outside of London and is already home to gaming companies such as Mkodo, Bede Gaming, Ubisoft and Epic Games. Tombola is also based in the neighboring city of Sunderland.
The move comes after Invest Newcastle invited Gamevy to attend the Great Exhibition of the North’s gaming festival – 1UP North. This 2-week event aimed at gamers, coders and budding digital designers provided a platform to showcase the level talent and expertise within the city.
Invest Newcastle, a service delivered by NewcastleGateshead Initiative, used this opportunity to give Gamevy an insight into the digital and tech sector. They hosted a jam-packed day of activity, introducing them to networks, recruiters and property solutions within the city.
Helen Walton, Chief Commercial Officer at Gamevy, said: “We’re delighted to be opening a hub in this vibrant city – and finding so many highly talented people with a passion for innovation. Recruitment is a challenge for every tech business, but Gamevy’s unique approach to how we work – with no set hierarchy or job roles – really seems to appeal to the independent spirit of Newcastle! We’re looking forward to welcoming our first hire to the Gamevy team!”
Matt Bratton, Inward Investment Manager from Invest Newcastle introduced Gamevy to Newcastle’s tech community.
He said: “Newcastle is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and we have more than 44,000 people working within the creative, digital and tech industry. With 50,000 STEM students studying locally means companies have access to a brilliant talent pool. The collaborative nature of our networks here undeniably creates added value for businesses who chose to locate here. I have no doubt that Gamevy will benefit from the support our sector network provides. We are delighted to welcome them to Newcastle.”
Gamevy plan to create up to 30 jobs in the city over the next two years. They chose Newcastle as a location because of the quality of talent and because of its fit with the organisation’s collaborative and unique culture. The community of digital and tech businesses and networks was also a big advantage, since Gamevy already has several strategic partnerships with companies based in Newcastle, including Bede Gaming.
