(Las Vegas).- The president of Mendoza’s Provincial Institute of Gaming and Casinos (IPJyC) has joined the governing body of the International Association of Gaming Regulators. Her appointment strengthens South America’s representation in global discussions on gaming regulation.
A Career with Strong Regional Presence
Dr. Ida Magdalena López, president of the Instituto Provincial de Juegos y Casinos de Mendoza (IPJyC), has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR).
López has led Mendoza’s gaming regulatory agency since 2019 and has extensive experience in gaming regulation and institutional management.
In 2024, she was elected president of the Association of State Lotteries of Argentina (ALEA), becoming the first woman to hold the position. She was re-elected as ALEA president in 2026, leading the organization that brings together Argentina’s provincial lottery and gaming authorities.
She also serves as First Vice President of the Ibero-American Corporation of State Lotteries and Betting (CIBELAE).
IAGR Highlights Her Regulatory Experience
IAGR President Ben Haden highlighted López’s appointment, emphasizing that her experience will contribute to the association’s work on key international regulatory challenges.
According to Haden, her expertise will strengthen IAGR’s ability to engage with regulators across different markets while also reinforcing the organization’s presence in South America, a region that has become increasingly relevant for regulatory innovation and the development of new approaches to gaming oversight.
IAGR Vice President Brian Krolicki also praised López’s legal and organizational leadership, as well as her involvement in the modernization of Argentina’s gaming regulatory framework.
A South American Perspective on Global Challenges
Following her election, López said she was honored to join IAGR’s Board of Trustees and to participate as a featured speaker at the organization’s upcoming annual conference, which will take place in Lima, Peru, from October 19 to 22.
López noted that, despite differences between markets and government structures across jurisdictions, regulators are currently facing many of the same challenges.
In this context, she emphasized IAGR’s role in facilitating international cooperation on key regulatory issues and said she looks forward to contributing a South American perspective to the organization’s initiatives.
Regulation, Technology and International Cooperation
The IAGR Annual Conference will be held under the theme “Steady hands, shifting ground: Advancing regulation in a connected world”, focusing on the challenges created by the continued evolution of technology, markets and associated risks within the gaming sector.
Key topics will include improving regulatory oversight, strengthening cooperation between jurisdictions and developing approaches that can make gaming regulation more efficient and effective.
López’s appointment comes at a time when cooperation among gaming regulators is becoming increasingly important as technological developments and new forms of gaming continue to reshape the industry.
