Macau Jockey Club announces horse racing season for 2023/2024

Macau Jockey Club´s operator announced last weekend that it had successfully obtained a nod of approval from the authorities.

The recent announcement by the Macau Jockey Club (MJC) has confirmed the near-term outlook for a long-established industry in Macau, which was on the verge of experiencing a fate akin to that of Singapore’s.

A review of the racing calendar by Macau News Agency has unveiled that there is a race scheduled almost every week, with occasional instances of two races per week.

The announcement also addressed growing concerns in recent weeks regarding the future of MJC, which allegedly failed to fulfill the majority of its commitments after obtaining a 24-year extension to its concession license in 2018.

At that time, the horse racing operator committed itself to investing MOP1.5 billion (US$190 million) in stages to upgrade the existing facilities and expand non-gaming offerings.

The MJC has been on a losing streak since 2005. It reported in June accumulated losses of MOP2.1 billion for 2022.
