Manuel San Román, a legacy in gambling regulation in Peru, has died

(Lima).- The gaming industry community in Latin America is in mourning after the sad news of the death of Manuel San Román Benavente, a man who left an indelible mark on the regulation and normalization of gaming in Peru.

Manuel San Román, a legacy in gambling regulation in Peru, has died

Engineer Manuel San Román was the General Director of Casino Games and Slot Machines since 2006 until March 2022, holding the position with several governments of different political parties.

During more than 15 years, he managed to transform the Peruvian gaming industry significantly, with different actions:

Normalization of In-Person Gaming: Under his leadership, strong regulations were established for casinos and slot machines, ensuring a safe and transparent experience for players.
Reduction of Illegality: San Román implemented effective measures to combat illegality in the sector, protecting both operators and players.
Increase in Tax Collection: Thanks to his strategic approach, it was possible to increase tax revenue for the State, contributing to the development of the country.
Employment Generation and Diversification: his vision allowed the creation of jobs and the diversification of activities in the gaming industry, benefiting the economy and society.

A visionary leader

Manuel San Román was also a regular attendee and collaborator at the Ibero-American Gaming Summits, organizing the 6th edition in Peru with great success in attendance from both Latin American regulators and companies in the gaming sector1. Currently, he was Compliance Director at Apuesta Total, one of the main sports betting operators in Peru.

A Painful Goodbye
The departure of Manuel San Román leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him and worked with him. His legacy will endure as a beacon of integrity and commitment in the regulation of gaming in Latin America.
