MERKUR Initiative Supports Cardiac Screening Programme for the Young

CRY which stands for Cardiac Risk in the Young is the latest charitable group to receive support thanks to the MERKUR Initiative programme. CRY is a wonderful charity working to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths and was nominated by Merkur’s UK Expansion Manager, Chris Green for very personal and moving reasons.

Chris takes up the story: "My wife sadly lost her eldest daughter in 2014 from a sudden cardiac arrest aged just 17. Since then, we have raised many thousands of pounds and installed around 20 defibrillators in schools and sports clubs in the midlands in her memory. I’m delighted to confirm that we succeeded in meeting our target of £17,000 which will allow us to provide two heart screening days for 200 young adults aged between 14 and 35 in the Midlands local area."

Tony Boulton, Director of Public and Political Relations commented: “The award to CRY illustrates exactly what MERKUR Initiative is all about which is supporting those charities, good causes and individuals that do not receive the recognition they deserve. CRY offers subsidised screening to all young people between the ages of 14 and 35-years as well as emotional and clinical support following a young sudden cardiac death. It is a hugely deserving charity which resonates with many members of the MERKUR UK team.”

Since launching in August 2021 Merkur Initiative has supported 40 smaller charities and good causes including the raise the roof appeal at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, and buying Christmas Dinner for staff working at hospices in Milton Keynes and Preston.
