Pascua Yaqui Tribe approves expansion projects for Tucson gaming facilities

Both of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s casino enterprises in Tucson were approved in October for major expansions including the addition of 90 RV sites, as many as 150 additional hotel rooms and an expansion of the Casino Del Sol’s current convention space by 9,600 square feet. Additionally, a new 11,000 square foot Event Center will be built adjacent to the Casino of the Sun, according to PR Newswire.

Robert Valencia, Chairman of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, said “The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is honored to have the opportunity to build new accommodations and meeting spaces for guests who visit our properties,” according to the news release. “These additions will create more jobs and will positively impact our Tribe, its members, and Southern Arizona,” said Valencia.

To be located next to the current Casino Del Sol gaming venue, it is estimated that the new hotel will up to 150 rooms and a pool area. The new hotel will afford visitors as additional lodging option near the Tucson casino.

Meanwhile, a proposed 90 space RV park to be built near the casino will provide additional lodging opportunities for part-time and full-time RVers. They will be able to hook up and take advantage of all of the amenities at Casino Del Sol before they get back on the road.

Casino Del Sol’s current conference center will reportedly undergo a major facelift that includes a 9,600 square foot expansion, and to complement the existing space, the addition of more breakout rooms.

Casino Del Sol’s sister property, Casino of the Sun, which is the original Pascua Yaqui Tribal casino, will also be receiving a new addition. To be located adjacent to the casino, a newly constructed 11,000 square foot Event Center will allow for entertainment, meetings and events.

Kimberly Van Amburg, Casino Del Sol CEO, said “The overwhelming support we have received since the opening of Casino Del Sol has resulted in our current hotel being at near-full capacity most nights,” according to PR Newswire. “This project will allow us to meet the increased demand of our customers as well as better serve our meeting and convention clientele,” said Van Amburg.

The news agency reports that the Las Vegas-based Cuningham Group is the architect for the project. The cost for the project has reportedly not been disclosed.
