(Philippines).-Gaming outsourcing firms employ 8,000-9,000 Filipinos: Tengco Unlicensed online casinos still around and operating illegally.

Philippine Regulator Says Enforcing Online Casino Ban Will Be Challenging

The head of the Philippines’ gaming regulator said implementing a ban on online casinos would be a challenge as he pitched to exempt about a dozen outsourcing companies working for foreign gaming firms from the prohibition.

In this sense, Gaming outsourcing firms employ 8,000-9,000 Filipinos, says Tengco, while unlicensed online casinos continue to operate illegally.

Most online casinos previously stripped of licenses “are still around” and operating illegally, said Alejandro Tengco, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., or Pagcor.

Besides, Pagcor Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco emphasized that the real challenge lies in enforcement after winding down operations. Interestingly, about a dozen business process outsourcing companies, which provide customer service to gaming firms based in Australia, the US, Canada, and Europe, may be exempt from the ban due to their backroom operations and lack of betting involvement
