(Lisbon).- The Portuguese regulator has launched a revamped self-exclusion platform for online betting, consolidating responsible gambling practices and raising player protection standards in the regulated market.
The Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) implemented, as of April 8, 2026, a new online gambling self-exclusion platform, marking another step forward in Portugal’s regulatory strategy focused on consumer protection and sector sustainability.
The tool allows both players and non-players to request self-exclusion from all licensed betting platforms in the country, as well as to revoke the request. One of its key differentiators is its centralized scope: all requests are automatically applied across all authorized operators, ensuring a uniform and effective system throughout the jurisdiction.
For the iGaming industry, the initiative represents a strengthening of the regulated ecosystem, aligned with international best practices. The implementation of robust self-exclusion mechanisms is considered a fundamental pillar for market credibility, especially in a global context of increasing demand for high responsible gambling standards.
The new platform was developed with a focus on user experience, featuring a more intuitive and simplified interface that reduces barriers to adoption. In addition, it has been fully optimized for mobile devices, enabling users to submit requests quickly and securely via smartphones and tablets.
From a regulatory perspective, the launch reinforces Portugal’s position as a mature jurisdiction committed to effective online gambling oversight. For licensed operators, the measure contributes to a more transparent and predictable environment, while also strengthening consumer trust.
With this update, SRIJ enhances the effectiveness of its control mechanisms and reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable growth model, in which technological innovation and social responsibility go hand in hand—an increasingly valued factor among global stakeholders in the gambling industry.
