(Macau).- Macau's casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) declined 8.4% year-on-year in July to MOP20.26 billion (US$2.51 billion), although monthly revenue rebounded from June as demand improved following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
July Revenue Recovers from June
According to figures released by Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), July GGR reached MOP20.26 billion (US$2.51 billion), representing an 8.4% decrease compared with July 2025.
Despite the annual decline, the result marked a 9.4% increase from June's MOP18.52 billion, suggesting a recovery in gaming activity during the month.
For the first seven months of 2026, Macau's casino industry generated MOP147.16 billion in GGR, up 4.4% year-on-year.
World Cup Impact Fades
Market analysts had linked June's softer performance to the FIFA World Cup 2026, which ran from June 11 to July 19 and diverted some consumer spending and attention away from Macau's gaming sector.
Recent analysis from Citi indicated that daily GGR improved during the second full week of July as the tournament's impact diminished. MGM Resorts International President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle also stated that gaming demand in Macau had already begun recovering before the World Cup final.
Typhoons Cause Limited Disruptions
Macau also experienced two typhoons during July—Maysak at the beginning of the month and Noul near the end. While neither storm prompted the higher-level weather warning that would halt public transportation, Typhoon Noul caused disruptions to flights at Macau International Airport and affected transport links with Hong Kong.
The storm also temporarily suspended some ferry services from neighboring Guangdong province, one of Macau's key visitor markets, creating minor headwinds for tourism during the month.
