(Brasil).- A recent study published by Datahub, a platform that operates with big data and analytics, showed that the online sports betting segment grew 360% in the last three years in Brazil. According to the survey, by 2022, the segment had 239 listed companies in the country.
The business survey considers the expansion and closure of businesses classified in category 9200-3/99 of the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) and includes "drawing activities by television, telephone, magazines, etc.; the operation of coin-operated gambling and betting machines; the operation of games of chance and betting on the Internet; and the operation of other games of chance and betting not specified above".
"This activity presents the highest similarity and concentration of known and visible gambling companies in the market, serving as a relevant indicator," highlighted Datahub.
The information was compiled from the company's market intelligence and research platform, which has more than 600 data sources, 56,000 CNPJs and 400 variables.
In 2020, the first year considered in Datahub's analysis, 51 bookmakers opened in Brazil. Already in 2021, that number jumped to 116, representing an increase of 127%.
One of the factors that justifies the progress of this sector is the growing interest of Brazilians in sports and sporting events, especially football. Increased media coverage of sporting events and the popularisation of betting among young people may also have contributed to the growth of the sector, according to Dathub's report.
