Dutch Authority Bans Live Advertisements for Sports Betting

Live advertisement forbidden during live matches

The Kansspelautoriteit (Dutch Gambling Authority).- has written to sports betting providers to stress that they are not allowed to make live advertisements encouraging gambling during live matches. This ban is intended to protect (potential) gamblers from impulsive participation in games of chance during sports matches and breaks.

With the letter, the Ksa once again explains the rules regarding live advertising during sports betting and what is and is not permitted. Broadly speaking, providers may not entice viewers of a match to place a bet during the game. This could be through a social media post, push notification, or email.

Ksa Warns of Rising Betting During World Cup

During the World Cup, the Ksa expects increased participation in betting. The regulator had previously written to license holders to remind them of broader advertising rules, such as the ban on sports sponsorship or the use of role models. The Ksa will carry out extra monitoring during the World Cup and will immediately enforce penalties in case of violations.
