English football wants to end betting on yellow cards

(London).- The FA (Football Association in the original), the body responsible for governing English soccer, wants betting companies to eliminate fees related to yellow cards and other incidents in the game, amid growing concerns about the manipulation during matches.

English football wants to end betting on yellow cards

The FA, the body responsible for managing the main tournaments in England, can also veto the markets for corners and penalties.

According to Mail Sport, executives of the entity spoke with houses in the sector and the government about imposing restrictions on some of the bets offered in certain competitions. The move should win the support of the Premier League, which has already taken steps to withdraw companies from the main sponsorship segment.

The news comes as an investigation is underway into the yellow cards received by West Ham's Lucas Paquetá in three Premier League games this year. In addition, it is the fourth yellow card investigation into gambling in the last five years.
The FA are concerned that the yellow card markets in particular are open to manipulation. On the other hand, it already obtained the approval of the veto in initial conversations with officials from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports.

Restrictions on other niche bets, such as the number of bookings, corners and penalties given by referees during specific games, were also discussed.

A formal ban on such markets would require intervention by the Gambling Commission, although the FA could go an independent route and ask operators directly to remove such possibilities.

It is worth remembering that yellow card bets are completely prohibited in football in Germany and Sweden.
