(Missouri).- New policy permits certified, state-licensed operators to advertise sports betting on Google Ads. The policy took effect immediately, opening the door for legal sportsbooks to promote their services via the Google Ads platform.
On August 15, 2025, Google updated its Gambling and Games advertising policy to allow sports betting ads from certified, state-licensed operators in Missouri. The policy took effect immediately, opening the door for legal sportsbooks to promote their services via the Google Ads platform.
Certification Process Now Required for Missouri Sports Betting Advertisers
To run sports betting ads in Missouri, advertisers must first complete Google’s gambling certification process. Applications are open immediately and require proof of valid Missouri state licensing, along with compliance with Google’s gambling ad policies.
Key certification requirements include:
Proof of active state license
Adherence to responsible gambling practices
Control over the promoted domain (free subdomains are not allowed)
Detailed application form submission via Google’s Help Center
Advertisers must also select their gambling category—such as sports betting, daily fantasy sports, or horse racing—during the application. Certification must be maintained at all times, and any changes in licensing status or business structure require prompt recertification.
Strict Enforcement and Format Limitations
Google enforces its gambling ad policies rigorously. Running ads without certification can lead to account suspensions or bans. Violations are treated as egregious, especially for content such as social casino games, which face a zero-tolerance policy.
While most Google Ads formats are allowed under the new Missouri policy, some remain restricted, including Gmail ads, Shopping ads, and Google TV Masthead outside the U.S. However, U.S.-based sports betting ads are now permitted on Google TV Masthead, following an April 2025 update.
Geographic Targeting and Content Compliance
This policy update applies exclusively to users located in Missouri. Advertisers must configure geo-targeting correctly to avoid policy violations. Ads must promote only legally permitted activities—sports betting only—excluding other gambling types like online casinos or social casinos.
Each new state or gambling category requires a separate certification application, emphasizing the need for accurate targeting and strict content alignment with local regulations.
Landing Page and Website Requirements
Certified advertisers must use owned and controlled domains, and all landing pages must:
Promote responsible gambling
Avoid targeting minors
Meet both Google and Missouri regulatory standards
Aggregator or affiliate comparison sites are not eligible under this policy.
Industry Impact and Marketing Opportunities
This Missouri expansion continues Google’s gradual rollout of gambling ad permissions in the U.S., following similar changes in Florida (2023) and Delaware (2024). The move opens significant advertising opportunities in Missouri, home to over 6.2 million residents, offering new reach potential for state-licensed sportsbooks.
As Google’s gambling policy evolves, marketing professionals must adapt to a growing patchwork of state-level regulations and strict platform requirements. Staying certified and compliant is now a critical part of operating in the digital gambling advertising space.
