(Netherlands).- The Dutch Gambling Authority (Kansspelautoriteit, Ksa) has reminded sports betting license holders of the boundaries of their licenses. Supervision has shown that some operators offered bets that do not fall within the licensed category of sports betting.

These included, among others, wagers on award selections such as a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. In such cases, the license holders involved were addressed, and these bets were immediately removed.

Only bets on sports matches allowed Sports betting license holders may, under the Remote Gambling Decree, only offer bets on events during a sports match or on the outcome of a sports match.

It is required that a sports match takes place within organized sport, recognized by NOC*NSF or comparable international sports organizations.

Bets on other events do not fall under this category. This includes, for example, award selections where the outcome is determined by a jury or panel and does not directly result from a sports match or an event during a sports match. Bets on political elections or player transfers are also not permitted.

Responsibility lies with the license holder License holders remain responsible for the betting offer they provide, even when using external platforms or sportsbook providers.

The Ksa therefore expects operators to continuously monitor their offerings and take appropriate measures to prevent prohibited bets. If unauthorized bets are nevertheless offered, immediate intervention is required. The Ksa will continue to supervise the betting offerings of license holders.
