(St Gallen).- After 50,000 data-driven simulations, Sportradar’s AI model crowns the Thunder as the most likely team to win the 2026 NBA Finals, forecasting a potential back-to-back victory and outlining the season’s top contenders, matchups, and playoff probabilities.

Sportradar’s AI Simulation Predicts Oklahoma City Thunder to Repeat as 2026 NBA Champions

Sportradar’s AI-powered NBA season simulation projects the Oklahoma City Thunder as the top contender to win the 2026 NBA Finals, marking them as the league’s first repeat champions since the 2017–18 Golden State Warriors. Using tens of thousands of data points, Sportradar’s proprietary AI engine analyzed historical performance, team odds, and player data to simulate 50,000 versions of the upcoming season.

The AI-driven analysis identified the Thunder as the projected 2026 champions in 27.3% of all simulations, followed by the Denver Nuggets (10.3%) and Cleveland Cavaliers (9.4%). The Houston Rockets (8.3%) and New York Knicks (7.0%) also emerged as strong contenders to break decades-long championship droughts.

Among the most likely NBA Finals matchups, the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder appeared with a 9.2% probability, with both teams featuring in three of the top five projected scenarios. The simulations also highlighted other potential matchups involving the Nuggets, Rockets, Orlando Magic, and Knicks.

Interestingly, recent Eastern Conference finalists — the Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics — did not appear among the top projections, influenced by injuries to key stars Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum.

Sportradar’s comprehensive AI model goes beyond championship predictions, mapping out each team’s likelihood of reaching the NBA Playoffs and competing for the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy. The analysis showcases how data-driven insights are transforming sports forecasting, offering fans and analysts a glimpse into what could be an electrifying 2026 NBA season.
