(Louisiana).- Multiple industry sources confirmed to Sports Handle that they are “hearing” that the Louisiana Gaming Control Board will issue temporary digital sports betting licenses and launch operators on Friday
WynnBET on Tuesday announced that preregistration for Louisiana bettors is available on its platform. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board did not immediately return a call regarding the launch, and earlier this month, the regulator declined to point to a potential launch date. A Friday launch would allow bettors to wager ahead of Sunday’s NFL conference championship games, which pit the Bengals against the Chiefs in the AFC and the 49ers against the Rams in the NFC.
The Super Bowl is set for Feb. 13 in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium, meaning that the Rams could potentially be the second team to play a Super Bowl in its home stadium (Tampa Bay was the first in 2021).
When the Rams host the 49ers on Sunday, it will mark the first time a team has hosted a conference title game in that year’s Super Bowl stadium. Louisiana voters in 55 out of 64 parishes legalized sports betting on the 2020 ballot, and on Oct. 31, 2021, the Harrah’s casinos in New Orleans and Bossier City became the first to take wagers.
Penn National Gaming began taking bets at two of its five Louisiana properties on Nov. 1, and since then, DraftKings and FanDuel are among the other operators to open physical sportsbooks. FanDuel opened brick-and-mortar locations in suburban New Orleans and Lake Charles, near the Texas border, in early December.
