(Malta).- As we are all aware, the Coronavirus is affecting many sectors beyond Health. Economic losses in several areas are beginning to show up, and companies must find a way to keep being profitable as they reinvent themselves.

Virtual sports are helping the betting industry during Coronavirus outbreak, states Golden Race

Just as the tourism sector was waiting for the Easter holidays or the Eurovision Song Contest to make a profit in this 2020, the world of sports betting also had important events and competitions such as the Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Champions League, the most important tennis tournaments such as Wimbledon, or the NBA season that promised a remarkable income but have been recently cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19 risks.

Now, with everything on hold, doubts appear about the economic viability of this year for bookmakers and online platforms, who must cut costs and find new ways to retain their customers.

Some companies are organising bets on the climate, political affairs, or social issues. Other companies are pushing customers to play online casinos and poker, which is a good solution for some people, but when you like football, basketball, races and betting on their outcomes… What can you do?

Fortunately, our sector has some help that no other industry has: virtual sports.

Virtual sports are visual recreations of sporting events used for betting purposes. These recreations can be achieved by 3D graphics and animations, pre-recorded events or a combination of both.

3D technology brings now hyper realistic virtual matches, and other elements such as real based updated teams, realistic odds and recognisable sportsbook panels add a lot to the virtual betting experience where real bets are simulated in the best possible manner.

Thanks to the latest technology, developed by the industry’s leading companies, players can now bet on their favorite leagues, competitions and events, and see the results in just a few minutes ¡or even have them immediately after placing the bet!

Football is the king of real sports on the betting field and also through the screens. Virtual football has been improving until reaching huge realism thanks to sports commentators, true sports camera angles, real team moves created with motion capture technology, real odds and so on, being able to represent every major league and tournament in the world.

Making the experience so lifelike and immersive is a decisive characteristic to attract and retain gamblers.

Virtual racing is also in high demand by fans around the world. 24/7 real dog video racing, horse racing - which is one of the most popular sports amongst punters-, and a wide range of motorbikes and karts racing are available with high quality videos combined with provisional results on screen.

Another virtual sport getting stronger is boxing, which has a huge fan base around the world. But again, there are many ways of doing “virtuals”. Some companies create games using computer-versus-computer simulations, while others have recorded real fights in advance to obtain the most realistic movements and results.

As this situation can be interpreted as a wake up call for all casinos and operators to embrace online gambling and virtual sports, it seems certain that we all will see a before and after for the betting industry once the Coronavirus pandemia ends.
