ICE Journey: 15 Years of Authentic Learnings
2 minutos de lectura
Cristian Galarza, CEO of ASAP Américas, draws on more than 15 years of experience at ICE to share how the event has shaped his perspective on the gaming industry—revealing trends, challenges, and opportunities that continue to define its future.
At ICE, sleep is a luxury few can afford.
For years in London and now in Barcelona, the annual gathering has transformed time itself—days blur into nights as the gaming industry runs at full throttle, with meetings, events, and conversations stretching far beyond the exhibition floor.
During those days, the land-based gaming industry moves at a different pace: schedules that start early, back-to-back meetings, nonstop stands, overlapping events, and conversations that continue long after the venue lights go out. ICE is not just a trade show. It is a constantly running ecosystem.
For anyone new to ICE, the International Casino Exhibition is now held in Barcelona, and brings together manufacturers, operators, technology providers, regulators, and strategic partners from all over the world. Where gaming, betting, payments, technology, and regulation intersect: one space, one agenda.
As CEO of ASAP Américas, I have been accompanying visitors and exhibitors at fairs like ICE for more than 15 years. Each year, beyond immersing myself in innovations and revolutionary ideas, I reaffirm the notion that these fairs are not just social events: they are a thermometer of where the industry is heading.
The lessons of ICE are learned on foot, across kilometers of corridors. Literally. From a technical meeting to a casual chat, from a towering stand to an improvised café table, and then straight on to the next commitment. One truth emerges quickly: comfortable shoes and a little back support aren’t optional—they’re essential parts of the survival kit.
And in that constant movement, clear lessons emerge.
First, that the industry is profoundly global. In a single morning you might speak with a Latin American operator, a European supplier, and an advisor from Asia. For international trade, this translates into a concrete reality: each market has different rules, timelines, and requirements. Being well-prepared is not optional.
Second, logistics cannot be rigid. Land-based gaming still depends on equipment, spare parts, and sensitive technology. All of this must arrive on time, comply with regulations, and be available when the business needs it. A delay is not just an operational issue: it’s a room that doesn’t open, a launch that gets postponed, or an opportunity that cools off.
Third, trade shows remain essential to the industry.
In a world of emails, calls, and video conferences, ICE puts faces to names. Relationships built over years of digital exchange are consolidated face-to-face. And many new ones begin with a casual chat—sometimes standing, backpack on, coffee in hand—that months later turns into a concrete project.
Much more than stands and meetings
ICE is also intensity. Long days, active nights, and a social agenda running parallel to the commercial one. But it’s not just noise: it’s about understanding where the industry is going, which topics keep recurring (regulation, compliance, responsible innovation), and which are starting to gain weight.
From our vantage point, it all leads to one clear conclusion: the most successful companies are those that seamlessly align strategy, operations, and logistics. Strong sales alone aren’t enough—you need to execute, deliver, and plan with precision.
Looking ahead to ICE Barcelona 2026
ICE Barcelona 2026 is just around the corner. From February 19 to 21, the industry will gather once again—and, as always, the energy will extend far beyond the exhibition halls. For ASAP Américas, it’s another chance to take the pulse of the business, identify real needs, and support our clients with a practical perspective on international trade. Ultimately, ICE underscores a simple truth: the world keeps moving, business never pauses, and preparation makes all the difference.
