(United States).- Ground is broken on a $350 million casino resort in Arkansas, according to reports from local media. The state's third casino is expected to open in June 2020.
Last November, Arkansas voted to bring casinos to the state by passing an amendment to the state constitution. Last March, the state awarded the first two casino licenses in its history.
The Quapaw Nation received the state’s third casino license last June and began construction on the Saracen Casino Resort in Pine Bluff Monday.
The tribe held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning to celebrate the start of construction.
When completed in June 2020, the property will have a 300-room hotel and a gaming floor with more than 2,000 slot machines and 50 table games. An entertainment venue is scheduled to open six months later. A smaller casino annex with about 300 slot machines will open this October.
The first two licenses were awarded to Oaklawn Racing and Gaming in Hot Springs and Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis. Since accepting the application for Saracen Casino Resort, the state gaming commission rejected five more applicants.
