Casinos among businesses to enjoy increased capacity as Singapore eases COVID-19 restrictions

Singapore integrated resorts Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa are among the businesses to enjoy increased capacity from this week after Singapore’s Ministry of Health announced the first in a two-step process to ease the sovereign state out of its latest COVID-19 lockdown.

As of Monday, operating capacity limits for a range of businesses – including attractions, cruises, museums and public libraries – have increased from 25% to 50% while hotels have also had a variety of restrictions eased such as the number of people allowed in each hotel room and at wedding ceremonies.

Marina Bay Sands on Monday removed a stipulation that only two casino players could be seated at any one gaming table, instead stating the casino was now open to people over 21 years of age.

A further easing of restrictions has been touted for next Monday 21 June, including the resumption of MICE events capped at 250 attendees and dine-in at restaurants for groups of up to five people.

Singapore reported 18 new community-transmitted cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

The easing of COVID restrictions comes two weeks after Marina Bay Sands revealed it had conducted mass COVID-19 testing of almost 7,500 staff and 800 contractors in response to the recent outbreak, with all coming back negative,

The integrated resort had reopened casino operations on 19 May after closing for two days for an extensive deep-cleaning in response to two dealers testing positive for COVID-19.
