(Macau).- If new confirmed Covid-19 cases continue to drop this week a new ‘consolidation period’ where restrictions will gradually be lifted could already be initiated next week.
The closure of all non-essential commercial and industrial services has been extended for five days until midnight on July 23.
A total of 22 new confirmed Covid-19 cases were reported last Sunday, including eight found within the community, a small decrease from the 27 cases reported on Saturday and the 31 reported last on Friday.
Speaking in today’s pandemic update press conference, Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre Coordinator Dr. Leong Iek Hou stated that once the number of new crown cases drops to a “low level”, this consolidation period will be initiated with restrictions lifted and normal activities gradually recovering.
Authorities previously had underlined that the main goal was to reduce the number of cases found within the community.
However, she warned that once an outbreak situation was to break out again, policies would have to be again adjusted dynamically, with strict restrictions again adopted and “normal life resumed” after the cases were cleared.
