(Macau).- Gaming operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has announced today that an Andaz Macau hotel will open in the first half of 2021 as part of its planned Cotai property expansion.

The Andaz hotel brand was launched by Hyatt Hotels Corporation, with about 21 Andaz hotels currently open, including in Singapore, Shanghai, and Tokyo. The new hotel will include a dedicated check-in lounge catering to large MICE groups, over 700 rooms and suites, an Andaz lounge, a bar and restaurant, a fitness center and an indoor pool, with the property to complement the future Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC) and the 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena, set to open at the same time.
‘With Andaz Macau, we will work closely with Hyatt to create experiences that truly showcase what is special about this destination, while further contributing to the strength of Macau’s tourism and MICE industries,’ the Vice Chairman of GEG, Francis Lui, said in the new announcement.
The Hyatt Hotels Corporation Asia-Pacific Group President, David Udell, indicated that setting an Andaz branded hotel for the first time in Macau was part of the brand’s plans to double its footprint in Asia Pacific by end of 2020, with other openings scheduled across Greater China in Taipei, as well as Sanya, Shenzhen and Xiamen.
GEG’s expansion projects for Galaxy Macau is set to double the property’s gross floor area with the addition of 4,500 hotel rooms by 2022, plus 400,000 square feet of MICE, the new multi-purpose arena, food & beverage, retail, and casinos.
This project is divided into Phase 3 comprising 1,500 hotel rooms, the multi-purpose arena and other MICE and non-gaming facilities, with Phase 4 comprising an integrated resort with 3,000 hotel rooms.
The company has completed most of the piling work on Phase 4 and it is now proceeding to site preparation works with a 2022 opening for this phase still expected.
The group is also carrying out an HK$1.5 billion renovation program for its properties Galaxy Macau and StarWorld Macau, with the renovation program to be completed in early to mid-2020.
