Grupo Televisa is already in talks with potential interested parties in acquiring its games and raffles business, as it is doing with its radio business, sources close to the company said.
The new unit for sale includes PlayCity Casino and PlayCity Bets that have been operating since 2005 and currently have 17 stores across the country with 7,200 electronic gaming machines and a new sports betting website. Since nales of 2017, Televisa decided to concentrate on its main businesses, and therefore divest in others as now in games and raffles, with which it has the third place of market share in Mexico within the sector.
It is rumored that those interested in buying it are Codere and Blackstone and analysts estimated that the operation would be around 300 million dollars. The estimated time to close the operation would be within 90 days, they added. In his last conference with financial analysts, Alfonso de Angoitia, executive co-president of Grupo Televisa, said they were making progress in their plans to sell non-strategic businesses, including live entertainment.
During the second quarter of 2018, Televisa reported that just 2 thousand 313 million pesos of 26 thousand 702 million were in the "Other Businesses" segment, which includes the betting segment. In Mexico, some of the main casino companies are Grupo Caliente, Mexican Hippodrome Administrator, Promojuegos de México, to name a few.
