(Las Vegas).- Las Vegas attracted only 30 percent of the visitors it normally does in June. But those who did visit made up for it with their gambling, along with a strong showing from local residents.

The 1,065,100 visitors in June is 70.5% below the 3.6 million in June 2019 when casinos were open for 30 days during the month. Casinos reopened June 4 this year.

Las Vegas had a 41% occupancy rate compared to nearly 92 percent a year ago, according to a report released Friday by the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.

In a reflection of visitors gambling heavier to make up for fewer visitors, gaming revenue declined 51 percent in Clark County, 61 percent on the Strip, and 56 percent downtown. Revenue in locals’ casinos declined 28 percent.

The LVCVA said of the 95,000-plus rooms out of about 150,000 that were reopened in June, the occupancy rate was 40.9% for the month, down from 91.7% in June 2019.
Weekend occupancy was 51.8% and midweek occupancy was 36.5%. The Strip occupancy was 40.4%. It was 36.5% downtown.

The average daily room rate for properties was $104.07, a decline of 13.6% year-over-year. Revenue per available room was $42.56, down 61.5% from June 2019. The Strip average daily room rate was $117.62 compared to $58.71 downtown.

The average daily traffic on all major highways was 111,805, a decline of 13.2% from June 2019.

On the I-15 border with California, average daily traffic was 41,111, a decline of 16% from 48,915 in June 2019. Airline passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport, which includes people coming and going, fell 76.6% to 1.04 million, down from 4.4 million.
