(Macau).- June has ended with a total of MOP6.5 billion (US$817 million) in gross gaming results, the worst monthly result in the SAR this year so far and a 37.4 per cent drop from the previous month.
This is the worst monthly result reported since November, 2020 when the city’s main sector was still reeling from the pandemic.
A string of locally transmitted Covid-19 cases in Guangdong starting from the end of May has led to reinforcement in cross-border restrictions and requirements, including a 48-hour valid negative nucleic acid test result, which has again reduced the number of tourists reported in Macau.
A total of MOP49 billion in gaming results was reported in the first six months of this year, a 45.4 per cent year-on-year rise, but in comparison to a 2020 with record low gaming results as a result of the pandemic.
