Macau visitor arrivals down 23% sequentially in February

(Macau).- The number of visitors arriving in Macau in February 2021 fell 23.3% compared with January levels to 427,122, impacted by a COVID-19 outbreak in mainland China that saw stay at home orders issued over the Chinese New Year holiday period.
However, the figure represented a 173.1% improvement over February 2020, when the initial spread of COVID-19 into Macau saw all 41 casinos close their doors for 15 days.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), overnight visitation grew by more than 225% year-on-year to 245,309 while same day visitors increased by 124.2% to 181,813.
With almost all arrivals in February 2021 coming from mainland China, visitation from the mainland increased 426% year-on-year to 380,649 including 163,157 under the Individual Visit Scheme. Around 44% of all arrivals in February came from Zhuhai.
In the first two months of 2021 combined, visitor arrivals declined by 67.3% year-on-year to 983,887 while the average length of stay of visitors grew by 0.4 days to 1.7 days.
