(Las Vegas).- On the heels of a successful limited reopening in Las Vegas last Thursday, MGM Resorts announced that it will reopen a fourth Strip property later this week. According to a report from the Reno Gazette-Journal, MGM will open The Excalibur Hotel & Casino on Thursday, June 11.
MGM reopened New York-New York, Bellagio and the MGM Grand a week earlier, while Caesars Entertainment opened The Flamingo, Harrah’s and Caesars Palace. The properties’ poker rooms were not opened with the rest of the casino.
Caesars has yet to announce any the reopening of any further properties, but MGM executives are excited at the pent-up demand in the Nevada gaming market.
“We are very pleased by the enthusiasm we are seeing from guests ready to come back to Las Vegas,” acting CEO Bill Hornbuckle told the Gazette-Journal. “As business demand increases, we are able to open additional properties and bring more of our employees back to work.”
Hornbuckle told the Las Vegas Review-Journal last week that after the Excalibur reopening, Aria is next on the list. If all goes well, Aria could open its doors by July 4. After that, Hornbuckle expects opening Park MGM, Luxor, Mirage and Mandalay Bay on a monthly or biweekly basis until all properties are operational again.
The Las Vegas-based gaming giant furloughed more than 63,000 employees in response to the coronavirus-induced shutdown. Many have been called back to work and Hornbuckle expects to have as much as 60 percent of the workforce rehired by the end of summer.
