More than 30 million visitors visited Macau between Jan and Sept

(Macau).- More than 30 million people visited Macau in the first nine months of this year, up 17 per cent from the same period last year, according to official figures released yesterday.
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes recently stated that authorities still believe the final number of tourist arrivals for 2019 should reach 40 million or close to that, despite external disruptions to the tourism market.
Between January and September, the number of same-day visitors went up 30.6 per cente year-on-year to more than 15.9 million while overnight visitors jumped 4.9 per cent to more than 14.2 million, totaling 30,202,906 visitors so far.
In the period under review, visitors remained in the city for an average of 1.2 days. As usual, most visitors who entered Macau this year until September came from the Mainland (21,455,294), 17.7 per cent more than in the same period of 2018.
Visitors from South Korea (609,833), Hong Kong (5,560,117) and Taiwan (815,838) grew by 0.4 per cent, 22.3 per cent and 1.5 per cent, respectively.
In September alone, 2,764,924 people visited Macau, an increase of 8 per cent over the same month last year. In 2018, Macau beat the record number of tourists: 35.8 million, an increase of 9.8% over the previous year.
