(Macau).- The upcoming opening of new facilities by gaming and leisure companies will create greater demand for local human resources, with six job fairs held this month with 1,000 new job vacancies on offer, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) indicated today (Wednesday).

New leisure project openings to increase job offers in Macau

Labour authorities will co-organise several job fairs offering employment opportunities to local residents with gaming and leisure companies MGM China, Galaxy Entertainment Group, and Macau Theme Park and Resort Ltd.

The six job fairs held offered some 1,000 employment vacancies in 130 different job positions, with about 350 job slots requiring higher education degrees.
The general unemployment rate (2.9 per cent) and the unemployment rate of local residents (3.9 per cent) both increased slightly in the December 2020/ February 2021 period, with the number of unemployed rising by 600 to 11,500.

The construction and gaming sectors have been pointed as the sectors seeing the highest amount in job losses, with new graduates also facing a rare scarcity of job prospects after the pandemic economic impact in the SAR.

Galaxy Macau Phase 3 expansion is expected to gradually open in the second half of this year, with the project to include the Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC), an event venue with a total MICE space of 40,000 square meters for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

A 450-suite Raffles brand hotel and a 700-room Andaz Macau hotel will also be included in a project, in a project expected to create 1,800 new job opportunities, of which 900 positions reserved for internal transfers and the other 900 for new hirees.
Meanwhile, Macau Theme Park and Resort Ltd a company headed by Arnaldo Ho – Angela Leong’s son with the late tycoon Stanley Ho – is responsible for the HK$5 billion Lisboeta Macau hotel.

Lisboeta was granted a four-star hotel license by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), in August, with several of its food & beverage outlets also receiving the necessary licensing, however, the property has so far only been used as a quarantine location.

In total the property next to Macau East Asian Games Dome is expected to include three hotels with some 820 rooms, the Lisboeta Hotel, the Maison L’occitane Hotel, and a LINE Friends Casa d’Amigo 12 stories tall Y-shaped tower.

An MGM Job Fair with an “exclusive session for young people in Macao” was held on April 20, with another organised on April 27.

Meanwhile, two Galaxy Entertainment Group Job Fairs were held on April 24 and 25, with some 375 job openings on offer, including job positions in hotel operations, catering, cleaning, environmental hygiene, leisure and resort services, as well as for the transportation coordination department.
The Macau Theme Park and Resort Job Fairs will be held on April 28 and 29 of April will provide 412 job openings in retail business development, project development and equipment management, marketing and business exploration, market promotion, information technology, catering, and room cleaning.

The CEO of SJM Holdings, Ambrose So, also indicated recently that Grand Lisboa Palace has passed several of the final government inspections, with the property expected to open by June of this year.
