However, the number of visitors to Macau still fell by more than 90 per cent in July when compared to the same month of 2019.

In July, the number of day-trippers and tourists was 50,210 and 23,796, respectively, and the average length of stay for visitors was 1.3 days (plus 0.1 days), in annual terms.
The average length of stay for tourists (4.7 days) rose 2.5 days, but for day trippers (0.1 days) it decreased 0.1 days, DSEC said.

The number of visitors from China was 66,489, down 97.4 per cent in annual terms. Of these, 3,069 had an individual travel visa.

Visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan accounted for 6,240 and 1,271, respectively.

In July, the majority of visitors (73,604) entered Macau by land and only 402 people arrived by air, according to the same note.

DSEC classifies visitors as any person who has traveled to Macau for less than a year, a term that is divided into tourist (one who spends at least one night) and a day-tripper (one who does not stay overnight).

Last year, nearly 40 million visitors entered Macau, which this year imposed severe border restrictions to contain the Covid-19. Macau was one of the first territories to identify cases of covid-19, before the end of January.

The last, the 46th, detected on June 25, when there were no new cases since April 9, has already been discharged.
Macau did not register any deaths related to the disease and did not identify any infected among the health professionals.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 781,194 deaths and infected more than 22.1 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
