Ohio casinos and racinos break record with USD 197 M of revenue in February

(Cleveland).- Ohio’s casinos and racinos broke a record for gambling revenue in February, setting themselves up for another strong year. The state’s 11 casinos and racinos had $197 million of gambling revenue in February, according to reports from Ohio’s Casino and Lottery commissions, surpassing the $178.8 million record set in February 2022.
Saying Ohio’s casinos and racinos “broke a record” sounds like a broken record. They collectively set the monthly record for January last month, and break monthly records pretty often. Ohio’s total gambling revenue has also increased each year since 2012, when the first casino opened — excluding 2020, a year plagued by pandemic-related shutdowns.
This is the money kept by the gambling houses, after paying out winnings, but before state taxes and fees.
The four casinos, which can offer slot machines and table games like blackjack, brought in $82.6 million, up from the $75.3 made last February. The state’s seven racinos, which can only offer slot machines, brought in $114.4 million, up from $103.6 million.
All 11 gambling properties took in more revenue this February than last year.
Newly legal sports betting, which is counted separately from casino and racino revenue, could be helping by driving patrons to visit gambling establishments. Each casino and racino also has a physical sportsbook.
Weekends are also a big help, usually, although February 2022 and 2023 had the same number of weekend days.
So far in 2023, the casinos and racinos have reported $393.9 million in gambling revenue, up from $350.1 million this time last year.
In the Greater Cleveland market, February revenue was:
* $25.4 million at MGM Northfield Park, up from $22.4 million in February 2022.
* $15.5 million at JACK Thistledown Racino, up from $14.8 million.
* $22.8 million at JACK Casino Cleveland, up from $20.2 million.
