(Malaysia).- Genting Malaysia has announced the reopening of its flagship Malaysian integrated resort, Resorts World Genting, plus non-gaming properties Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi, after the government relaxed its Movement Control Order.

Resorts World Genting reopens earlier than planned

The reopening, almost four weeks after closing its doors on 22 January, comes two days earlier than had previously been planned with Genting Malaysia having stated recently that the closure period would extend until 18 February. Instead, RWG opened its doors again at 6pm on Tuesday 16 February – although it noted that, “Some of our hotels, facilities, attractions and other offerings will be subjected to revised operating hours, limited availability or temporary closure.”

“We will continue to fully adhere to the strict SOPs issued by the government throughout the resort and we seek our guests’ cooperation to do the same,” it added. “The safety and health of all our guests and employees remain our utmost priority.”

Genting Malaysia’s two other non-gaming properties, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi, will resume operations this Friday 19 February. However, Resorts World Birmingham and all other land-based casinos in the United Kingdom remain temporarily closed until further notice.

RWG closed for three months in 2020, from 18 March until 19 June, following the initial outbreak of COVID-19 and implementation of a Movement Control Order by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

It had subsequently staged a strong recovery in the latter months of the year before having to reduce capacity in early January 2021 as Malaysia experienced a new wave of COVID-19. It also reported a handful of positive COVID-19 cases among workers at a staff canteen, a facility not accessible by the public.
