Resorts World Genting shuts down as Malaysia goes into total lockdown

Initially to run for two weeks until 14 June, but likely longer, the lockdown comes after Malaysia recorded more than 8,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day for the first time late last week.

RWG had already suspended casino operations but said Monday, “Following the government’s announcement on the nationwide total lockdown, RWG will be temporarily closed until further notice. Essential resort-based services such as security, bomba, utilities and clinics will remain operational.”

RWG previously closed for three months in 2020, from 18 March until 19 June, following the initial outbreak of COVID-19 and implementation of a Movement
Control Order by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
It also closed for four weeks from 22 January until 17 February 2021 under Malaysia’s MCO 2.0.
