Sheraton Grand at Sands Cotai Central named Macau´s 12th quarantine hotel

The world’s largest Sheraton and biggest hotel in Macau with 4,001 guest rooms and suites, Sheraton Grand Macao has seen 2,000 rooms isolated as a “special isolation area,” among which 500 will be utilized for quarantine immediately and the remainder based on demand.

The hotel’s gaming, dining and retail operations will continue as normal.

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Health Bureau have delegated engineering staff to conduct on-site inspections of Sheraton’s ventilation system and other conditions before utilizing the hotel. All passageways which connect the “special isolated area” to the shopping mall, restaurants, other hotels and facilities have now been completely blocked, with those in quarantine only able to enter through an independent entrance.

A total of 12 hotels have been requisitioned by the SAR government so far, the others being Pousada Marina Infante Hotel, Golden Crown China Hotel, Regency Art Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort, Metropole Hotel, Treasure Hotel, San Tung Fong Commercial Inn South Wing, Grand Lapa, Grand Harbour Hotel, Royal Dragon Hotel and Jai Alai Hotel.

Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng called for Macau’s six concessionaires to provide hotel facilities at their large integrated resorts as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility commitment.

“The operators should reconsider what is the true CSR,” he said at the time. “CSR is not only about publicity in newspapers or donating several supplies to the public.

“It would be much easier if we could find a hotel with 3,000 rooms. We pay for the fees, we don’t ask to use them for free. What the gaming operators have done, Macau residents see in their eyes and keep in their minds.
