(Macau).- Assistant Chief Operating Officer (COO) Arnaldo Ho Yau Heng of Socidade de Jogos de Macau S.A (SJM Holdings) told media at the sidelines of a ceremony that the company would be considering “all kinds of possibilities” during the bidding process for an integrated resort license in Japan.
“We think that getting an integrated resort in Japan is a very great opportunity so we are looking to all kinds of possibilities for now. And we have been to different regions […] so we are looking to be involved in everything for now,” said Mr. Ho.
Ho said that SJM Holdings would consider different case studies for different markets, ranging from regional markets to metropolitan markets.
MGM Resorts International, Melco Resorts and Entertainment, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas Sands and Genting Singapore have all expressed interest in bidding for a license to operate an integrated resort in Osaka.
MGM International has partnered with local financial services firm Orix, and announced the intention to invest around US$9 billion in ten local companies in order to ensure it is a top runner for the integrated resort bid, while Melco Resorts and Entertainment has opened an office in Osaka in order to capitalise on the market.
A maximum of three integrated resorts will be permitted in Japan in the first stage of gaming market liberalisation in the country.
