(Sydney).- Australia’s Star Entertainment Group says it will increase capacity at its flagship property The Star Sydney to 5,000 people across its gaming areas from Friday after the NSW state government this week agreed to ease COVID-19 restrictions.

The Star Sydney preparing for eased COVID-19 restrictions

Sydney residents will be provided a range of greater freedoms from 12.01am Friday, including more people allowed at various types of gatherings and the easing of some requirements around wearing masks in public.

For The Star Sydney, it also means it will no longer be subject to a cap of 300 patrons per area, although it will still be subject to a limit of one person per four square meters of floor area.

“Based on the scale of The Star’s various casino areas, The Star Sydney will be able to host up to around 5,000 patrons at any one time across the total casino area,” the company said.

Capacity could be doubled again in a matter of weeks with the government revealing that a one person per two square meter rule would come into effect should the state’s latest run of 11 days without a new case of COVID-19 in the community continue.

The Star Sydney had previously reverted to a similar rule late last year before an outbreak of the virus in Sydney’s northern beaches area saw restrictions tightened again over the Christmas and New Year’s period.
