Evil Geniuses topple Astralis, win ESL One New York

(United States).- In their first tournament following a seven-year hiatus from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competition, Evil Geniuses claimed victory at ESL One New York on Sunday in Brooklyn with a 3-1 victory over Astralis.
EG, who acquired NRG Esports' roster this week, came out charging in the rematch of Friday's Group B winners' match, which EG won 2-0.
After jumping to a 13-2 lead on Inferno, EG wrapped up the first map at 16-3 for a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five match at the Barclays Center. The second map was more competitive, but EG finished with a 9-4 spurt to win 16-12 on Dust II.
Astralis fought back in a tight third map, ultimately surviving double overtime to win Train 22-20. But EG closed strong, finishing on an 8-1 run to win Nuke 16-8 and clinch the victory.
EG's Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte claimed MVP honors with a rating of 1.25 in the match. EG's roster also included Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz, Tarik "tarik" Celik, Cvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov and Ethan "Ethan" Arnold.
EG took home half of the $200,000 purse with the victory. Astralis earned $40,000 for the runner-up finish.
