(São Paulo).- The BiS SiGMA Americas 2025 summit, held on 9th April in São Paulo, Brazil, brought together a panel of distinguished experts to discuss the rapidly evolving role of stablecoins within the payments ecosystem.
Moderated by Alexandre Ludolf, Head of Investments at Transfero Group, the session delved into the hurdles of user acquisition, infrastructure development, and regulatory complexities facing the region.
The panellists included Guilherme Prado, Regional Manager at Bitget; Meryem Habibi, Chief Revenue Officer at Bitpace; and Nathaly Diniz, Head of Institutional Sales & Public Affairs at Lumx. Together, they explored the transformative potential of stablecoins and the innovative solutions driving their integration into the financial fabric of Latin America.
Stablecoins as a key to unlocking payments potential
The discussion began with an analysis of stablecoins as a cornerstone for modern payment solutions. Meryem Habibi highlighted how stablecoins are transforming transaction methods within the iGaming industry, stating, “Stablecoins offer unparalleled stability in volatile markets, ensuring more seamless and secure transactions for users, which is crucial for fostering trust in digital ecosystems.”
Overcoming regulatory challenges
The panel also addressed the regulatory landscape surrounding stablecoins, a challenge for many operators looking to expand their reach. Guilherme Prado stressed, “Understanding the diverse regulatory requirements across Latin America is essential to avoid legal pitfalls. This requires operators to be proactive in engaging with regulators to ensure compliance and operational sustainability.”
Enhancing user acquisition through stablecoins
Nathaly Diniz explained how operators can leverage stablecoins to drive user acquisition, particularly in regions with limited traditional banking infrastructure. “Stablecoins offer an inclusive approach to financial services, particularly for unbanked or underbanked populations, providing them with easy access to the digital economy,” she explained. This perspective reflects a growing trend to harness the potential of stablecoins for broader financial inclusion.
Infrastructure development for growth
The conversation largely centred on infrastructure development, as speakers agreed that robust systems are crucial to supporting the expanding stablecoin ecosystem. Alexandre Ludolf concluded, “Investing in scalable infrastructure is key to ensuring that stablecoins can be widely adopted and seamlessly integrated into the region’s financial networks.”
Building a collaborative future
The panel concluded with an emphasis on collaboration among stakeholders, including regulators, operators, and technology providers, to foster an environment that supports stablecoin growth. “Partnerships and knowledge-sharing are the keys to overcoming regulatory and infrastructure barriers,” Ludolf summarised, underscoring the importance of collective effort in navigating the challenges ahead.
In conclusion, the panel provided insightful perspectives on the current state and future potential of stablecoins in the payments ecosystem. As Latin America continues to embrace digital finance, stablecoins are set to play a pivotal role in reshaping the region’s financial landscape, offering a secure, inclusive, and stable alternative to traditional payment systems.
