(Boston).- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has released its financial results for June 2026, reporting $97.36 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR) from the state's three casinos and $54.32 million in taxable sports wagering revenue (TSWR) across retail and online sportsbooks. The latest figures underscore the continued strength of Massachusetts' regulated gaming market, with both casino gaming and sports betting making significant contributions to state tax revenue.

Massachusetts Casinos and Sports Betting Revenue Surpass $150 Million

Casino Gaming Delivers Nearly $100 Million in June Revenue

According to the MGC, Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor collectively generated approximately $97.36 million in gross gaming revenue during June.

Plainridge Park Casino, Massachusetts' Category 2 slots-only gaming facility, is subject to a 49% tax rate on GGR, with 82% of tax proceeds allocated to Local Aid and 18% directed to the Race Horse Development Fund.

Meanwhile, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor, both licensed as Category 1 resort casinos, are taxed at 25% of gross gaming revenue, with the proceeds distributed among various state funds as established under Massachusetts gaming legislation.

Since the opening of the Commonwealth's commercial casinos, Massachusetts has collected approximately $2.47 billion in taxes and assessments from casino operations.

Sports Betting Continues to Strengthen State Revenue

The state's regulated sports wagering market generated approximately $54.32 million in taxable sports wagering revenue during June 2026.

The figures include activity from seven online sportsbooks and three retail sports betting operators.

Retail and Mobile Operators

Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino operate under Category 1 Sports Wagering licenses, allowing each property to offer an on-site retail sportsbook. These operators are taxed at 15% of taxable sports wagering revenue.

Massachusetts' online sports betting market currently includes:

  • Bally Bet
  • BetMGM
  • Caesars Sportsbook
  • DraftKings
  • Fanatics Betting & Gaming
  • FanDuel
  • theScore Bet

These Category 3 mobile sportsbook operators are subject to a 20% tax rate on taxable sports wagering revenue.

Tax Contributions Continue to Grow

Revenue generated through sports wagering continues to provide substantial funding for Massachusetts public programs.

Under the state's allocation formula, tax proceeds from sports betting are distributed as follows:

  • 45% to the General Fund
  • 27.5% to the Gaming Local Aid Fund
  • 17.5% to the Workforce Investment Trust Fund
  • 9% to the Public Health Trust Fund
  • 1% to the Youth Development and Achievement Fund

Since legal sports wagering launched with retail operations on January 31, 2023, followed by online betting on March 10, 2023, the Commonwealth has collected approximately $477.87 million in taxes and assessments from licensed sports betting operators.

Tax Carryover Mechanism Remains in Place

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission also noted that operators whose monthly adjusted gross sports wagering receipts become negative—when payouts to bettors and federal excise taxes exceed total wagering revenue—are permitted under state law to carry forward those negative amounts as tax credits for future reporting periods.

The June results reflect the continued maturity of Massachusetts' regulated gaming market, with both casino gaming and sports wagering maintaining strong fiscal contributions while supporting multiple public funding initiatives across the Commonwealth.
