(Austria).- With the new German state treaty on gaming, there will for the first time be a nationwide, cross-channel player self-exclusion list. Learn more about the effects on the German AWP operations and LÖWEN ENTERTAINMENT’S product solutions – in an interview with Arthur Stelter, Head of Product Management at LÖWEN ENTERTAINMENT, realized by THE WORLD OF GAMING, a NOVOMATIC's publication.

´Our solutions for the whitelist check build on well-known and proven products´

What does the nationwide self-exclusion list mean for AWP operators?

In the future, upon entering any German gaming venue and before any gaming session can commence, every guest must be checked to see if there is a matching entry in the central player self-exclusion system called OASIS. Up to now, only a few German states had state-wide player whitelist for AWP gaming. For most operators as well as the staff on site, this topic is therefore completely new.

How does the whitelist check work in practice?

That depends on the situation: The service staff can manually enter all the guest’s data into a web form provided by OASIS and thus check whether there is a matching entry in the self-exclusion list. This process is of course prone to errors, as it may easily occur that a letter is entered incorrectly. Faster, more convenient and, above all, more secure are our LÖWEN product solutions that process the query automatically.

What are these?

At LÖWEN ENTERTAINMENT, we offer three lean solutions for whitelist matching. Their common basis is an integration with the CASINONET software. Solution 1 consists of CASINONET and a document reader which is connected to the local terminal on site at the branch via USB. The document reader records the necessary identification data of the guest and the check with the player whitelist is then carried out automatically via CASINONET. Solution 2 comprises the NOVO activation terminal plus CASINONET. In this setup you get the device activation and the blacklist check within one product. The service staff checks the guest’s ID card. Afterwards, the card is simply swiped through the document reader of the terminal. Within seconds, the automatic comparison with the self-exclusion list is processed via the network. If there is no blacklisting, the guest can proceed to activate the gaming machine directly at the terminal. These are our solutions for the arcade segment.

And in the pub segment?

For the whitelist check in the pub segment, we offer our NOVO Gastro Activation Terminal in combination with CASINONET. This is currently exclusively available at attractive conditions in our FAIR PAY offer. A document reader and the CASINONET UPLINK are already integrated in the NOVO Gastro Activation Terminal. The process works like in the arcade: ID check, swipe it through the document reader, unlock the machine, play. The terminal takes care of the whitelist check automatically. In addition, the NOVO Gastro Activation Terminal has two special features that can be activated by the service staff if required: If the guest’s ID data cannot be read automatically, the NOVO Gastro Activation Terminal offers the possibility of a manual blocking query. In addition, future player self-exclusion requests can be entered directly at the terminal together with the guest.

Why should operators choose LÖWEN ENTERTAINMENT products?

Our solutions for the whitelist check build on well-known and proven products. Our goal was to implement the new requirement of the State Gambling Treaty as uncomplicatedly as possible. We have succeeded in doing so: Age verification, whitelist check and activation go hand in hand in our product solutions. This means that there is no noticeable difference for the customer. Those who already use our solutions will have no problems with the transition. Our products, especially the CASINONET network, offer numerous advantages over and above the blacklist check.

For example?

CASINONET has many features that already relieve operators of the burden of implementing official requirements. Not only the whitelist check, but also other processes that would be very time-consuming manually, are handled fully automatically by CASINONET – for example, the retrieval, backup and validation of fiscal data. In addition, there are functionalities such as the performance analysis of the machine park or the management and monitoring of machine settings. With CASINONET, operators save time as well as costs and certainly have gaming machines that perform well at their respective locations.

One final question: What is your advice to operators with regard to the whitelist check?

My recommendation would be to prepare for the connection to OASIS as early as possible. Operators should seek information about the different possibilities and corresponding product solutions, create the necessary infrastructure and train their staff to facilitate a smooth transition. Of course, we will be happy to support and advise them in this process!
