(Belgium).-The european country has recently implemented a new law raising the legal gambling age to 21, effective from September 2024.
The Belgian Gaming Commission confirmed in March it was to bring in the key change with the aim of improving player protection.
Sports betting, arcades and bingo are now in line with age requirements at land-based casinos that came into force in 2018.
As well as raising the gambling age, certain gaming devices have now been outlawed and there are now restrictions on gifts, bonuses and free games, as well as the accumulation of online licences on the same website.
The legislation will also see slot machines in bars, youth clubs and petrol stations coming to an end. Another change is that betting and casino-style games can no longer be combined in one location or on one website.
In addition to raising the gambling age, the new regulations also include restrictions on gifts, bonuses, and free games, as well as limitations on the accumulation of online licenses on the same website12. These measures aim to enhance player protection and address concerns related to gambling addiction and underage gambling
To conclude, Belgium’s gaming industry has also been in the spotlight of late due to its advertising restrictions.
